Our condolences to the Kistler family and the Polk County Fire District
No. 1 of Oregon. Captain Tom Kistler, 53, a 25 year veteran volunteer
firefighter with the Polk County Fire District No. 1 died Wednesday March
19, 2003. Tom was riding in the passenger seat enroute to a training
exercise when the apparatus he was riding in left the roadway and
crashed into a tree. Rescuers were unable to extricate him before he died.
The driver, Carlo Calabrese, 43, and one other passenger, Fire Chief Jack
Scheirman were uninjured. All three men had been wearing their seat belts.
A LifeFlight helicopter responded to the crash as well as firefighters from
the Dallas Fire Department and other Polk County firefighters.
A funeral will be held Saturday March 29, 2003 1PM at Western Oregon
University Campus. A memorial fund has been established and donations
can be made to:
