Our condolences to the Olander family and the Detroit, Michigan Fire Department. FireFighter Steven Olander, 39, a 13 year
veteran of the Detroit Fire Department, died Thursday, February 7, 2002, of an aneurysm. Steven was injured January 10,
2002 at a structure fire while raising a ground ladder. Someone fell on him, injuring his head and back. Still, he continued
working. It wasn't until later that he realized he was injured and was placed on medical leave.
Steven was a second-generation firefighter. His father, Duane, is a retired deputy chief of the department. Our brother,
Steven leaves behind a son, Michael McCracken, daughters Heather and Nicole Olander, and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be held at Fred Wood Funeral Home-Rice Chapel, Livonia, MI, 2-9PM. A funeral service with full department
honors will be held at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, Redford, MI, 10AM. Memorial donations can be made to:
