Our condolences to the Ebel family and the Newaygo, Michigan Fire Department. Chief Ray Ebel, 62, a 35 year veteran of the Newaygo Fire Department, died Monday, February 18, 2002. Ray responded as mutual aid to a structure fire with Fremont Fire Department. He collapsed at the scene and was rushed to Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont where he later died.

     Ray had been Chief of Department for four years.
