Our condolences to the Mathew family and the La Belle-Fannett Volunteer Fire
Department of Texas. FireFighter Lance Mathew, 20, a two year veteran
volunteer firefighter with the La Belle-Fannett Volunteer Fire Department died
Tuesday March 18, 2003. Lance had responded to an early morning MVA with
his personal vehicle. Highway conditions were dark and foggy. Lance was struck
and killed by a tractor trailer as he attempted to cross Interstate 10.
Lance was the first line of duty death in the La Belle-Fannett Volunteer Fire
Department's 40 year history. He had been volunteering with the department
since he graduated from Hampshire-Fannett High School in 2000.
A funeral for Lance will be held Friday March 21, 2003 1PM at St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Fannett. A cemetary service will be held immediately following the
funeral.
