Our condolences to the Keane family and the Waterbury Fire Department
of Connecticut. Captain John Keane, 37, a 12 year veteran of the
Waterbury Fire Department, died Tuesday May 22, 2007. John was
responding to a kitchen fire on Saturday May 19th when the engine he
was responding in collided with a responding ladder truck. He was
ejected and suffered head and internal injuries. He was transported
to Waterbury Hospital, and shortly after to Yale-New Haven Hospital,
where he passed away from his injuries three days later.
John was the Secretary of the Waterbury FireFighters Local 1339 and
one of the key members of the Union. He was very active in Waterbury's
political scene, donating many hours of his time to supporting the
department and actively engaging the community. He was a regular in
the local newspaper's Letter to the Editor column and the webmaster
of the Union website.
Our brother John leaves behind his wife Monica, his son John (8), and
his daughter Erica (10). Calling hours were held for John on Thursday
