Our condolences to the Batelli family and the Garfield Volunteer Fire Department of New Jersey. Assistant Engineer George Batelli, 55, a 25 year veteran of the Garfield Volunteer Fire Department died Tuesday October 1, 2002. George suffered an apparent heart attack and died while responding in his personal vehicle to a large structure fire at the Radburn Plaza Building. Companies from more than six surrounding communities responded to the scene.

     George was a member of Garfield Fire Company #1. As an assistant engineer, he was responsible for maintaining the apparatus and running the pumps at a fire.

     Our brother George leaves behind his wife Linda, three children, George Jr., Dawn, Sherry, and four grandchildren. Viewing for George will be held Thursday October 3, 2002 7-9PM and Friday October 4, 2002 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Aloia's Funeral Home in Garfield. A funeral will be held Saturday October 5, 2002 10:30AM at St. John's Cathedral in Paterson. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Saddle Brook. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to either Garfield Volunteer Fire Company 1, Garfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps., or the Garfield Junior Boilermakers.
