Our condolences to the Kreitzer family and the Bowie, Maryland Volunteer Fire Department. FireFighter Clarence Kreitzer, 78, a
64 year veteran with the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department, died Monday, September 24, 2001. Clarence was providing
specialized lighting services at the site of a tornado touchdown on a nearby University campus. Clarence was returning to his
home from the fire station after the call when he collapsed apparently from cardiac arrest. He was transported to a hospital in
Lanham where he expired shortly thereafter.
Clarence had been an active member of the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department since April 1937. Over the years, he served the
organization in the offices of Rescue Squad Chief, Vice President, Trustee, Lieutenant, and Engineer. During his 64 years
of service Clarence received several awards for outstanding service to the community. He is survived by a daughter and
three grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 30, 2-4PM and 7-9PM with Fire/EMS Department Memorial Service at 8PM, at the Robert E. Evans
Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1, 10AM, from the funeral home,
followed by interment at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, 1080 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD. A reception will follow at the
Bowie Volunteer Fire Department, Company 19, 13008-9th Street, Bowie, MD.
