Our condolences to the Young family, the Middlebury Fire Department and the Addison
County Firefighters Association of Vermont. FireFighter Bruce Young, 60, a 37 year
veteran volunteer firefighter with the Middlebury Fire Department died Sunday March
9, 2003. Bruce died from an apparent heart attack while responding to an alarm. He
had started the engine of the ladder truck but before exiting the station he was
discovered slumped over the wheel.
Our brother Bruce leaves behind a wife, Sylvia, and 3 adult sons. His brother Roger
Young was a past Chief of the Middlebury Fire Department. A memorial funeral with
department honors will be held Thursday March 13, 2003 1PM at the Middlebury
College, Mead Chapel followed by a reception at Kirk Alumni Center. The family has
asked that any memorial contributions be made to the Middlebury Fire Department:
