10/31/07 Line of Duty Death - Charlevoix, MI
Our condolences to the Cross family and the Charlevoix Township
Fire Department of Michigan. Assistant Fire Chief Ralph Cross, 73,
a 20 year veteran and charter member of the Charlevoix Township
Fire Department, died Saturday October 27, 2007. Ralph was
distributing fire prevention and education materials to the
public at a local K-Mart when he collapsed and died from an
apparent heart attack.

10/29/07 Line of Duty Death - Athelstane, WI
Our condolences to the Phillips family and the Athelstane Volunteer
Fire Department of Wisconsin. FireFighter Robert Phillips, 64, a 3
year veteran of the Athelstane Volunteer Fire Department and 26
veteran firefighter, died Friday October 26, 2007. Bob was operating
the pump after fire operations at a chimney and roof fire were
winding down when he collapsed from an apparent heart attack. He
was transported to a Marionette County Hospital where he passed
away shortly after.

10/27/07 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Retired
Waterbury FireFighter William Hailstones of Dalton, New Hampshire.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday November 1, 2007 5-8PM at
Chase Parkway Memorial/Albini Funeral Home in Waterbury. A burial
will be held at the convenience of the family.

Seven years ago today, twelve year veteran Waterbury FireFighter and Charter Rescue 9 Member
Kevin McDonald
was taken from us in an off-duty accident. I would like to take a moment and remember
my cousin Kevin. He will never be forgotten.
10/19/07 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of David
Lallier Sr., father of Waterbury FireFighter David Lallier.
Calling hours will be held today Friday October 19, 20007 6-8PM
at Snyder Funeral Home on Willow Street. Funeral services will be
held tomorrow Saturday October 20, 2007 10AM at the funeral home
followed by a burial in Riverside Cemetery.
10/16/07 Armpatch Gallery Update
Today I updated the Armpatch Gallery with 24 new armpatches, including
these from the Joint Fire Service's Fire crash Rescue of Baghdad International
Airport and the Fire Rescue of the Katrina Disaster Response.

10/12/07 Line of Duty Death - Monterey, CA
Our condolences to the Will family and the California Department
of Forestry and Fire Protection. FireFighter Matthew Will, 30, a
4 year veteran of the CDF and heavy equipment operator assigned
to Hollister Air Attack Base in the San Benito Monterey Unit, died
Tuesday October 9, 2007. Matthew was creating a firebreak with a
bulldozer on a steep slope at the Colorado Fire in Monterey County
when the bulldozer overturned and tumbled down Garrapata Ridge. He
was airlifted to San Jose Regional Medical Center where he died
shortly after from his injuries.

10/7/07 On Vacation
Well readers, I am taking my annual fall Cape Cod vacation. For the next week
I will be doing nothing but eating Captain Parker's chowder and enjoying the
fall climate with my family in Old Cape Cod. I won't be updating the site until
next weekend.
10/6/07 Line of Duty Death - Buchanan Valley, PA
Our condolences to the Cole family and the Buchanan Valley Fire Department
of Orrtanna, Pennsylvania. FireFighter Adam Cole, 24, a member of the
Buchanan Valley Fire Department, died Thursday September 4, 2007. Adam
was responding to the station for a fire call when he crossed the centerline
while negotiating a curve, and struck an oncoming vehicle. He was transported
to Gettysburg Hospital but did not survive his injuries.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Angel Rodriguez,
stepfather of Waterbury Fire Lieutenant Ramon Arroyo. Calling hours will
held on Thursday October 4, 2007 5-8PM at Bergin Funeral Home in
Waterbury. A funeral service will be held on Friday October 5, 2007 10AM
at the funeral home followed by a burial in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Ana Almodovar,
mother of Retired Waterbury FireFighter Angel Almodovar. Calling hours
will be held on Wednesday October 3, 2007 5-8PM at Albini Funeral Home.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday October 4, 2007 10AM at Sacred
Heart-Sagrado Corazon Church in Waterbury followed by a burial at Calvary
Cemetery.
10/2/07 Line of Duty Death - Sharon Hill, PA
Our condolences to the Reagan family and the Sharon Hill Fire Company
of Pennsylvania. FireFighter Michael Reagan, 19, a volunteer with the
Sharon Hill Fire Company, died Tuesday September 29, 2007. Michael was
operating at a detached garage fire the doors and a support beam
collapsed on himself and two other firefighters. They were rescued and
transported to Mercy Hospital, and then transferred to Crozer Medical
Center where two of the firefighters were treated for burns. Michael
suffered severe injuries and passed away from his injuries three days
later.

10/1/07 Line of Duty Death - Olivet, MI
Our condolences to the Lietzke family and the Olivet Fire Department of
Michigan. FireFighter John Lietzke, 47, a volunteer with the Olivet Fire
Department, died Tuesday September 25, 2007. John was responding to the
fire station for an emergency call in his personal vehicle when he collided
with a tree that fallen into the road. John succumbed to his injuries at
the scene.
