9/26/07 Line of Duty Death - Sedgwick County, KS
Our condolences to the Johnson family and the Sedgwick County Fire District
#1 of Wichita, Kansas. Lieutenant Bryon Johnson, 32, an 8 year veteran of
the Sedgwick County Fire District, died Monday September 24, 2007. Bryon was
operating at a grass fire near homes caused by a live wire that was taken down
by a tractor trailer, when he came into contact with the live wire and was
severely shocked. He was transported by helicopter to Christi Regional
Medical Center at St. Francis Campus where he died shortly after.

9/24/07 Armpatch Gallery Update
Today I updated the Armpatch Gallery with 24 new armpatches, including
these from the Elizabeth Fire Company of Pennsylvania and the station
patch for FDNY Fire & Ice Engine 167 and Tower Ladder 87.

9/21/07 Line of Duty Death - Carrollton, KY
Our condolences to the Stucker family, the Dow Corning Corporation, and
the Clifty Six Volunter Fire Company of Madison, Indiana. FireFighter
Jerry Stucker, 53, a 26 year veteran of the Clifty Six Volunteer Fire Company
and an 11 year member of the Dow Corning Loss Prevention Department, died
Friday September 14, 2007. Jerry was operating a hydrant at a hazmat incident
at the Dow Corning plant when he collapsed from an apparent heart attack.
He was transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced.

9/18/07 Line of Duty Death - Shickshinny, PA
Our condolences to the McDaniels family and the Macanaqua Volunteer Fire
Company No. 1 of Shickshinny, Pennsylvania. Fire Police Captain William
McDaniels Sr, 51, a 15 year veteran of the Moconaqua Volunteer Fire Company,
died Saturday September 15, 2007. William had responded to a structure fire
at the Shickshinny High Rise. Shortly after arriving on the scene he
complained of chest pains and difficulty breathing. He was transported to
Berwick Hospital Center where he passed away shortly after from an apparent
heart attack.

9/17/07 Line of Duty Death - Lowell, MA
Our condolences to the Page family and the Lowell Fire Department of
Massachusetts. FireFighter Kelly Page, 38, a 5 year veteran of the Lowell
Fire Department, died Friday September 14, 2007. Kelly had responded to
several calls during his shift, including a basement fire in a vacant
tenement. During the evening he reported he was not feeling well and was
later found lying on the apparatus floor. His brother firefighters
attempted to resuscitate him with CPR and a defibrillator. He was
transported to Saints Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

9/15/07 Line of Duty Death - Holmesville, OH
Our condolences to the Zimmerly family and the Prairie Township Fire
Department of Holmesville, OH. FireFighter Jared Zimmerly, 20, a
volunteer with the Prairie Township Fire Department since March of
this year, died Sunday September 9, 2007. Jared was responding to a
mutual aid call for a structure fire in Millersburg when he lost
control of his 2006 Pontiac GTO while negotiating a turn on wet road
conditions. His vehicle struck a utility pole and a large pine tree
before overturning. Jared was ejected from the vehicle and passed away
from his injuries at the scene.

9/13/07 Line of Duty Death - Elizabeth, PA
Our condolences to the Bailey family and the Elizabeth Volunteer Fire
Company of Pennsylvania. Fire Chief Leonard Bailey, 56, a veteran of the
Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Company, died Wednesday September 12, 2007.
Leonard was home when a neighbor knocked on his door reporting a fire in
a vacant building next door, formerly a bar owned by Lenny's father called
'Engine 2'. After confirming and calling in the structure fire, he collapsed
from an apparent heart attack. He was transported to Jefferson Hospital
where he was pronounced.

9/12/07 Line of Duty Death - Burlington, NC
Our condolences to the Stanfield family and the Anderson Township Volunteer
Fire Department of Burlington, North Carolina. Captain Michael Stanfield, 30,
a 12 year veteran of the Anderson Township Volunteer Fire Department, died
Monday September 10, 2007. Michael had responded to the scene of a motor
vehicle accident in his privately owned vehicle. When the department cleared
the scene, Michael and one other firefighter exchanged vehicles to return to
the station. While returning, he lost control of the motorcycle he was operating,
which left the roadway and struck a tree. He was transported to the hospital
but passed away shortly after.

9/10/07 Line of Duty Death - Willow Grove, PA
Our condolences to the Crotts family and the Willow Grove Volunteer Fire
Company of Pennsylvania. FireFighter George Crotts, 70, a 53 year veteran
volunteer of the Willow Grove Volunteer Fire Company, died Saturday September
9, 2007. George was loading a 1923 American LaFrance Pumper on a trailer for
the North Penn Fire Company parade in North Wales when he fell and struck his
head. He was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital, where he passed away
from his injuries the next day.

9/9/07 U.S. Chemical Safety Board Video Room
Today I updated the U.S. Chemical Safety Board Video Room with 2 new
videos. The first is a safety video about
Reactive Hazards
: Dangers of Uncontrolled Chemical Reactions and covers several
incidents.

The second video is about a
Wastewater Plant Explosion
in Daytona, FL caused by a cutting torch near a Methanol tank that
was venting in the morning sun. Two workers were killed and one was
injured in the resulting explosion.
