Our condolences to the Firment family and the Marguerite Volunteer
Fire Company of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Captain Keith Firment, 35,
an 18 year veteran of the Marguerite Volunteer Fire Company died
Thursday Januray 22, 2004. Keith felt ill at his home after responding
to a fire call on Wednesday January 21, 2004. He was treated at a
local hospital before being transported to UPMC Presbyterian in
Pittsburgh where he died shortly after.

1/27/04 Line of Duty Death - West Bridgewater, MA
Our condolences to the Hatch family and the West Bridgewater
Fire Department of Massachusetts. FireFighter Charles Hatch,
48, a member of the West Bridgewater Fire Department since
2001 and a 33 year veteran FireFighter-EMT-Paramedic died
Thursday January 22, 2004. Charles died from a heart attack
following a box alarm.

1/26/04 Line of Duty Death - Delmar, NY
Our condolences to the Shea family and the Elsmere Fire Company
of Delmar, New York. Assistant Chief Kevin Shea, 54, a 30 year
veteran of the Elsmere Fire Company died Saturday January 24,
2004. Kevin had returned from an emergency call at a nursing home
and collapsed in his vehicle in front of the firehouse. He was rushed
to Albany Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short
time later.

1/20/04 Armpatch Gallery Update
I spent this morning editing 100 new armpatches for the
Armpatch Gallery
and I also redesigned the method of displaying them. They are now
completely sorted alphabeticaly and have the filename displayed
below them. I also tweaked the navigation area for the armpatch
pages. There are now 148 pages displaying a total of 1,776
armpatches.
1/19/04 Line of Duty Death - Maryland Line, MD
Our condolences to the Jones family and the Maryland Line
Volunteer Fire Company of Baltimore County, Maryland. FireFighter
Richard Jones, 65, a 48 year veteran of the Maryland Line Volunteer
Fire Company died Wednesday January 14, 2004. Richard went
home after his shift and died in his sleep from heart related issues.

1/17/04 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Laura Pompei,
mother of Retired Waterbury FireFighter Thomas Pompei. A funeral will
be held for Laura today Saturday January 17, 2004 10AM at Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Church followed by a burial in All Saints Cemetery.
1/16/04 Line of Duty Death - Philadelphia, PA
Our condolences to the Harvey family and the Philadelphia Fire
Department of Pennsylvania. Lieutenant Derrick Harvey, 45, a 14
year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department died Thursday
January 15, 2004. Derrick was seriously injured and burned when
he fell through the first floor of a residential structure fire on
Thursday Januray 8, 2004. He was rescued and transported to
Albert Einstein Medical Center via PFD Medic Unit then transferred
to Temple University Hospital Burn Unit where he died from his
injuries one week later.

1/11/04 Line of Duty Death - Winslow Twp, NJ
Our condolences to the Gant family and the Winslow Township
Fire Department of New Jersey. Lieutenant Leslie Gant, 46, a
30 year veteran firefighter with the Winslow Township Fire
Department died Thursday January 8, 2004. Leslie felt some
dizziness after returning from a motor vehicle accident response
with Engine Company 2572 on January 4th. He returned home
to rest but later his family took him to Thomas Jefferson Hospital
in Philadelphia where it was determined he had suffered a stroke.
He died days later.

1/9/04 Line of Duty Death - New Caney, TX
Our condolences to the Flowers family and the New Caney
Volunteer Fire Department of Texas. Assistant Chief Charles
Flowers, 61, a 26 year veteran of the New Caney Volunteer
Fire Department died Monday January 5, 2004. Charles had
suffered a heart attack at the scene of a motor vehicle
extrication on November 17th. He was transported to a
local hospital and treated, where he remained until December
17th when he was released to finish his rehabilitation at home.
Charles died in his sleep on Monday January 5, 2004.

1/4/04 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Louis Rocco,
father of Retired Waterbury FireFighter Joe Rocco. Calling hours for
Louis will be held today Sunday January 4, 2004 4-7PM at Maiorano
Funeral Home on Willow Street. A funeral with military honors will
be held for Louis on Monday January 5, 2004 9:30AM at Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Church followed by a burial in Mount Olivet
Cemetery in Watertown.
1/3/04 Line of Duty Death - Windsor Locks, CT
Our condolences to the Jeffery family, the Windsor Locks Fire
Department, and the Groton Submarine Base Fire Department
of Connecticut. Fire Chief Kenneth Jeffery, 51, a 30 year veteran
of the Windsor Locks Fire Department died Wednesday December
31, 2003. Kenneth collapsed from a ruptured aorta at the Groton
Submarine Base Fire Department on Thursday December 25, 2003.
He was treated at a local hospital and then airlifted to Hartford
Hospital. He remained in intensive care until he died days later.

1/1/04 Line of Duty Death - Jefferson Parish, LA
Our condolences to the Taylor family, the Jefferson Parish Fire
District No. 3 and the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department of
Louisiana. FireFighter Glyn Taylor, 43, a volunteer firefighter
with the Jerfferson Parish Fire District No. 3 died Monday
December 29, 2003. Glyn was traveling with other firefighters
to a night training exercise in five apparatus westbound on
South Frontage Road. A battery cover fell off one of the
apparatus and several men had gone to retrieve it and were
returning to the apparatus when Glyn was struck by two
eastbound automobiles. He was wearing coveralls and a jacket
with no reflective tape. Glyn was airlifted to Lake Charles
Memorial Hospital by Acadian Ambulance Air Medical where he
died shortly after.
