Our condolences to the Carbonneau family and the Maytown
East Donegal Township Fire Department of Pennsylvania. Fire
Police Lieutenant David Carbonneau Sr., 49, a 17 year veteran
of the Maytown East Donegal Fire Department died Monday
May 26, 2003. David was driving a fire police unit during the
memorial day parade when he suffered a heart attack. He
was transported to Lancaster General Hospital Susquehanna
Division where he was pronounced dead.

5/28/03 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Edwin French, father
of Waterbury Fire Department Captain Dan French, assigned to Engine 4 on
the D Shift. Funeral services for Edwin will be held in Lady Lake, Florida.
5/27/03 Line of Duty Death - Loretto, TN
Our condolences to the Ellis family and the Loretto Fire
Department of Tennessee. FireFighter Jason Ellis, 29, a
5 year veteran of the Loretto Fire Department died
Saturday May 24, 2003. Jason had completed a weekend
of fire training at the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes
Enforcement Academy. He was riding in the back of a
pickup truck when he slid off the back and struck his
head. He was treated on scene by Bedford County EMS
before traveling by Life-Flight to Vanderbilt Hospital where
he later died.

5/25/03 Line of Duty Death - Newcastle, WY
Our condolences to the Huber family and the Newcastle Fire
Department of Wyoming. Student FireFighter Andee Huber,
16, a 10th grader at Newcastle High School died Thursday
May 22, 2003. Andee was responding to nightime fire call with
Weston County FireFighter Ron Caillier, 46, when he lost control
of the 1981 Freightliner Tanker and drifted off the roadway
overturning the tanker almost twice. Andee was ejected. Ron
was treated for minor injuries. Neither passenger was wearing
their seatbelt. Andee was rushed to a local hospital where she
was pronounced.

sent 4 people to the hospital including 2 by way of seperate

5/19/03 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of retired
Waterbury FireFighter Robert Murphy. Robert was a 38 year
veteran of the Waterbury Fire Department. He was a veteran
of the Army and served during World War II. A mass will be held
for Robert on Wednesday May 21, 2003 at St. Peter and Paul's
Church in Waterbury. There are no calling hours.

5/13/03 Line of Duty Death - Mount Horeb, WI
Our condolences to the Casey family and the Mount Horeb Fire
Department of Wisconsin. Merlin Casey, 66, a 22 year veteran of
Mount Horeb Fire Department and a 27 year veteran of the
Emergency Medical Service died Saturday May 10, 2003. Merlin
was the driver of an ambulance on an EMS call for a woman with
abdominal pain. He was found slumped over the wheel from an
apparent heart attack by EMTs returning to the ambulance with
the woman. Merlin was rushed to Madison Hospital where he was
pronounced dead.

5/12/03 Armpatch Photo Gallery Update
I finally got to editing the armpatch submissions I receive on a regular
basis. I formatted 100 submissions and after deleting the duplicates, I
came up with 81 new armpatches which brings the total up to 1,633

5/8/03 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of retired
Waterbury FireFighter John 'Jack' O'Donnell Sr. Jack was a Navy veteran
and served the Waterbury Fire Department 25 years from 1968-1993.
Calling hours for Jack will be held Saturday May 10, 2003 10-11AM at
Saint Marion's Church in Torrington. A funeral mass will be held at
11AM followed by a burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown.
5/7/03 Line of Duty Death - Mexico, ME
Our condolences to the Wentzell family, the Mexico Fire Department,
and the Mill Fire Brigade of Maine. Fire Police Captain Harding Wentzell,
81, a veteran firefighter of the Mexico Fire Department and the Mill
Fire Brigade died Monday May 5, 2003. Harding was responding to
perform traffic control at the scene of a kitchen fire when he suffered
a heart attack. The Buick he was driving veered off the roadway and
crashed head on into a tree exploding in flames. Passersby were able
to pull him from the car until Rumsford FireFighters and Med-Care
Paramedics arrived but were unable to revive him.

many of the calls in the Brooklyn neighborhood as he can. He usually
takes some stunning photos if the call turns out to be anything. He

Christian LeWalter of the Graevenwiesbach Fire Station of Germany
sent me 3 photos of an early morning car fire. Two unlicensed boys
crashed this car into a tree and escaped unharmed. Two companies

5/5/03 Photo Gallery Update
Yesterday was a beautiful day to invite Waterbury FireFighter Joe
Bogdanski's wife Sandra and family members to Fire Headquarters and
honor his serving overseas by raising a Blue Star Service Banner over
his company's apparatus bay. The banner will be displayed until Joe
returns home from the United Arab Emirates. I was able to take a

5/3/03 Attention WFD Members
The flag-raising ceremony for Waterbury FireFighter Joe Bogdanski
has been rescheduled for tomorrow Sunday May 4, 2003 11AM at
Fire Headquarters. The flag will fly over Headquarters until Joe
returns. Dress uniform is NOT required. Joe has been serving
overseas in the United Arab Emirates for a couple months already.
We hope to see him back before June.

A Local 1339 Assessment Vote to purchase the old Waterville Fire
House for renovation into a Union Hall will be held on Tuesday May
13, 2003 3-7PM at the Waterville Fire House on Thomaston Avenue.
