Our condolences to the Nadeau family and the Fall River Fire Department of Massachusetts. District Fire Chief Gerald Nadeau, 51, a 25
year veteran of the Fall River Fire Department died Thursday October 24, 2002. Gerald became ill after a structure fire on September 19,
2002. He was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital this month and was later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital where he died days later
of respiratory failure.

10/22/02 Photo Gallery Update
Captain Mike Couture ran my crew through the training for the new SCOTT Buddy Breathing SCBA packs we will be using on the
Waterbury Fire Department when all personnel are certified. I took some photos during the practical training. There are 15 photos in the

The same day we did the SCBA training, we had responded earlier in the morning to a 14,000 volt transformer fire at Ansonia Brass on
Bank Street. Most of the time we spent there was evacuating the smoke from the huge processing area which contained several vats of

10/19/02 Line of Duty Death - Madisonville, KY
Our condolences to the Taylor family and the Madisonville Fire Department of Kentucky. Captain Kenneth Taylor, 49,
a 26 year veteran of the Madisonville Fire Department died Friday October 11, 2002. Kenneth was pulling hose at
a structure fire on Wednesday October 9, 2002 when he collapsed from a heart attack. Brother firefighters
administered CPR and he was transported to Regional Medical Center where he died two day later.

10/14/02 Vacation
Well readers, I am taking my annual fall Cape Cod vacation. I will be doing nothing but eating and touristy stuff in Cape Cod
this week with my family. I hope to get back to working on the site on Saturday. Anyone who was able to attend the
memorial service in New York on Saturday October 12, please email me some photos.

The Exchange Club's 'Salute to the Bravest' will be held Thursday October 17, 2002 6PM at the Aquaturf in Southington. They will be

10/10/02 Fireground Decision Making Seminar
I was contacted by John Galdenzi of Meriden Fire Department Local 1148. They are hosting a training seminar on Fireground Decision Making
presented by 28 year veteran Deputy Chief Bill Shouldis of the Philadelphia Fire Department and Integrated Training Technologies LLC.
The seminar will be held November 9, 2002 at the State Police Academy in Meriden, CT. Admission is $60 for the entire day. You must

10/9/02 Brian Sweeney Memorial Fund
Brian Sweeney left the Waterbury Fire Department when he was still in training. He left to join the FDNY. Brian was a member of Rescue 1 in
Manhattan. He was working overtime on Squad 288 on September 11, 2001. On November 26, 2001 Brians body was found in the rubble that
remained of the Twin Towers. A memorial website as well as a memorial tshirt have been created for Brian. Please visit the

10/4/02 Line of Duty Death - Garfield, NJ
Our condolences to the Batelli family and the Garfield Volunteer Fire Department of New Jersey. Assistant Engineer George Batelli, 55,
a 25 year veteran of the Garfield Volunteer Fire Department died Tuesday October 1, 2002. George suffered an apparent heart
attack and died while responding in his personal vehicle to a large structure fire at the Radburn Plaza Building. Companies from
more than six surrounding communities responded to the scene.

10/2/02 Line of Duty Death - Terre Haute, IN
Our condolences to the Stott family and the Terre Haute Fire Department of Indiana. Captain Ralph Stott, 50, a 24 year veteran of
the Terre Haute Fire Department died Monday September 30, 2002. He was killed after a large explosion at an auto body shop fire
caused debris and a building facade to collapse on several firefighters including himself. Two other firefighters were treated and
released.
