Our condolences to the Jones family and the Roswell Fire Department of New Mexico. Chief Louis Jones, 46, a 20 year
veteran of the Roswell Fire Department, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002. Louis died from a gunshot wound to the head that
he sustained on March 16 while responding to a house explosion.

3/27/02 Line of Duty Death - Roslyn, NY
Our condolences to the Frye family and the Roslyn Volunteer Fire Department of New York. Captain Allen Frye,
31, a veteran of the Roslyn Rescue Hook and Ladder Co. #1, died Monday night March 25, 2002. Alan was rolling hose
after a training drill when a car crashed through orange traffic barrels and struck him and another firefighter. Both
firefighters were rushed to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset where Alan was pronounced dead.

3/23/02 Line of Duty Death - Palisade, NB
Our condolences to the Schutte family and the Palisade Volunteer Fire Department of Nebraska. FireFighter Bernie Schutte,
69, a 42 year veteran of the Palisade Volunteer Fire Department, died Wednesday afternoon March 20, 2002. Bernie was
cutting fire breaks as a prarie fire when he collapsed. He was transported to the Community Hospital of McCook where he
was pronounced dead.

3/23/02 Line of Duty Death - Gluckstadt, MI
Our condolences to the Weisenberger family and the Gluckstadt Volunteer Fire Department of Mississippi. FireFighter Adam
Weisenberger, 19, a firefighter since he turned 18, died Wednesday afternoon, March 20, 2002. Adam was first on the scene
of a highway motor vehicle accident on I-55 with his personal vehicle. While attending to the passengers of the wreck, he
was struck by a vehicle which threw him into the second lane where he was struck by another vehicle. Adam was rushed
to University Medical Center in Jackson where he was pronounced dead.

3/22/02 Line of Duty Death - Dillon, MT
Our condolences to the Spear family and the Dillon, Montana unit of the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation
Fire and Aviation Management. Senior Engine Supervisor Joan Spear, 46, a 12 year veteran of wildland firefighting, died
Monday, March 18, 2002. Joan was training for an annual 3 mile pack carry fitness test when she collapsed from an as yet
undetermined cause.

3/20/02 Line of Duty Death - Whiting, VT
Our condolences to the Birchmore family and the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department of Vermont. FireFighter Clarence
Birchmore, 60, a 35 year veteran of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, died Saturday, March 16, 2002. Clarence
was responding to a fire call when he suffered a heart attack. He was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center
where he later died.

3/19/02 Line of Duty Death - Bellville, OH
Our condolences to the Swank family and the Bellville-Jefferson Township Fire Department of Ohio. Lieutenant Leo Swank,
50, a 27 year veteran of the Bellville-Jefferson Township Fire Department, died Saturday morning, March 16, 2002. Leo was
returning to the fire station from a chimney fire. He was in a rear facing jump seat when he suffered a massive heart
attack. He fell from the truck into the street only a block from the firehouse.

3/17/02 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has announced that the Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service
honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2001 will be held in Washington, DC, on Sunday, October 6, 2002, at
the MCI Center. The service is usually held at the monument in Emmitsburg, Maryland. There will be a day of family
activities and Sunday will feature honor guards and a public memorial service. For more information contact the

3/15/02 Heroes of 2001 Fundraising Stamp Unveiled
Now famous FireFighters William Eisengrein, George Johnson and Daniel McWilliams and photographer Thomas Franklin,
along with President George Bush and Postmaster General John Potter,
unveiled a new 'semi-postal' stamp that will raise funds to provide assistance to emergency workers killed or disabled on 9/11.
The 'Heroes of 2001' stamp will cost 45 cents. The stamps will be available in laste spring.
3/14/02 Retired Members Passing - Baldwin, NY
Our condolences to the Brown Family and the Baldwin, New York Fire Department. The Chief's Office and the Officers
and Personnel of Hook and Ladder Company Two of the Baldwin Fire Department regretfully announce the passing of
Former Captain, FireFighter Gerard J. Brown Senior, a 49 year veteran. "Pop" Brown was the senior member of Hook
and Ladder Company Two with 49 years of service. This being the longest tenure in the Company since it's inception.
Jerry joined Hook and Ladder Two in 1953 and served with distinction as a firefighter throughout the fifties.

3/9/02 Line of Duty Deaths - Manlius, NY
Our condolences to the Lynch and Ginocchetti families and the Manlius Fire Department and the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire
Department of New York. Firefighter Timothy Lynch, 28, and Firefighter John Ginocchetti, 41, died Thursday night, March 7,
2002. Both firefighters were operating on the first floor of a structure fire in Pompey, NY residence when the floor collapsed
and they fell into the the basement. Two other firefighters were also injured in the blaze.

3/7/02 Line of Duty Death - Charlotte, NC
Our condolences to the Earley family and the Charlotte Fire Department and the Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department of
North Carolina. FireFighter Josh Earley, 23, a firefighter since the age of 16, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002. Josh was
burned over 80% of his body at a structure fire on Monday, March 4, 2002.

3/6/02 Line of Duty Death - La Grange, KY
Our condolences to the Dake family and the La Grange, Kentucky Fire and Rescue Department. FireFighter Richard Dake,
48, a 2 year veteran of the La Grange Fire and Rescue, died Monday, March 4, 2002. Richard was returning a tanker to the
fire station after a training exercise. While attempting to cross a set of railroad tracks, the tanker was struck on the passenger
side by a CSX train traveling 35-40 MPH. The tanker was thrown 40 feet from the point of impact. Richard was ejected and
thrown 60 feet from the point of impact. Richard was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital where he later died.

The membership vote on the proposed Overtime Guidelines will be held Thursday, March 14, 2002, from 1500-1900 hours
at the Union Office in the Elton Hotel. The regular March meeting of Local 1339 will follow the vote at 1900 hours.
3/4/02 Photo Gallery Updates
Truck 1 B-Shift had a motor vehicle extrication Sunday morning. I believe the driver had a heart attack before he crashed
through a busy intersection, through a gas station parking lot and into the poles of a sign. I took 3 photos after the extrication.
We also had another extrication at 2AM the same morning on the D-Shift. I was unable to take photos there due to the
torrential downpour. I created a new gallery just for
Extrication Photos.

3/3/02 Line of Duty Death - Jefferson City, TN
Our condolences to the Murray family and the Jefferson City, Tennessee Fire Department. FireFighter Shane Murray, 21, a
nine month veteran of the Jefferson City Fire Department, died Thursday, March 1, 2002. Shane was operating inside a
structure fire on Eastern Street. He died from injuries sustained during the blaze. Investigators are still analyzing the scene
but believe an explosion occurred. Three other firefighters were injured including Fire Chief Lee Turner who was airlifted to
Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga for burns and smoke inhalation.

3/1/01 FDNY Helmet Raffle
The FireFighters of Local 359 Gary, Indiana are trying to raise $1 million dollars for funds benefiting all firefighters, and the
widows and orphans of fallen firefighters including: the
Leary Firefighters Foundation
and The Thomas Elsasser Foundation. Funds will also be placed in an escrow account to help build the Firefighters' Memorial
in New York City. They are raising money with a raffle. The grand prize is a white fire helmet with celebrity autographs,
$10,000 cash, a 3 day trip to NYC including round trip airfare and hotel, a guided tour of NYC fire stations, a tour of the set
of Law and Order SVU, and a framed picture of the celebrities signing the helmet and boots. For more information visit
